Persepsi dan Tanggapan Umat Katolik Keuskupan Atambua Terhadap Bunyi Pengeras Suara Mesjid (Toa) dalam Memupuk Toleransi di Wilayah Atambua, Kefa, dan Malaka

Abstrak

This study aims to find the perception and response of the people of the Diocese of Atambua to the sound of loudspeakers in mosques (toa) in fostering tolerance. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Social phenomena that bring conflict through the sound of toa are the reference and basis for this research with the result that some people are very disturbed by the sound of the toa, there is a group that allows it by observing several conditions in the form of regulating the volume, time and direction of the sound. There are those who want the toa to be taken down, let alone used by mosques that are close to each other.

The solution of the toa problem is not only a matter of technical arrangement but also depends on the perspective and willingness to dialogue of the majority group and the minority group. Therefore, the future of harmony in the Diocese of Atambua depends heavily on how the majority group manages power and influence for the common good. The majority group needs to try harder to remain open and continue to grow in tolerance so that it is not considered a group that is divided in interreligious dialogue.
